Wow, I just found out that the next computer game I'm buying doesn't come out until November.

Civilization IV is slated to release November 15th of this year.

A week from today are the season premieres of three great shows on the Sci-Fi channel:
Stargate SG1
Stargate Atlantis
Battlestar Galactica

Stargate SG1 - I'm looking forward to this season of SG1 - Especially since they got Ben Browder and Claudia Black on their staff now. I didn't care too much for their previous Sci-Fi show (Farscape) at first, but it is starting to grow on me (in DVD form) and both are exceptional Sci-fi actors. I think both will bring a great deal to the show in its ninth season. Besides, they need to do something to hold everyone's attention now that Richard Dean Anderson is effectively leaving the show after the first few episodes of this new season. Plus I want to see what they're gonna do with their brand new shiny Zero-point Module. Definitely a thumbs up on this one.

Stargate Atlantis - I'm kinda ho-hum on this one. It looked like they did everything they could do with it in the first season. However, it is shaping up to be more of a DS9-type of show with alot of friction between the characters. That type of show works as is evidenced by DS9 being the most popular Trek series out there. Speaking of DS9... I'm on the second disk of the sixth season right now and enjoying every moment reliving the Dominion War. :) Anwyays.. I'm holding back my thumbs up or thumbs down on this one until the mid-season break. I know that's cheap, but what can I do? It's a new show that looks to have used up all its viable quality plotlines in the initial season.

Battlestar Galactica - I never watched the original BSG series, so I don't have anything to compare it to, as all the other online reviewers seem to be doing. I'm just enjoying it for what it is. What is it exactly? A good Sci-fi series. Camera angles and special effects ala Joss Whedon in Firefly make for good visual appeal, and pretty good writing and dialog makes for a compelling storyline. I wanna see the season opener not just to see how they save Adama, but also to see how they handle the return of Starbuck and Helo, as well as how they deal with Boomer apparently turning traitor. Thumbs up on this one.

Origins - Recap

Well,

I'm feeling a ton better and am no longer sick. :)

At Origins I got to play in two tournaments - a LOTR foreign language sealed deck dAgent tournament and a LOTR Standard PSQ. I have no idea how I finished in the sealed deck as it was kinda hectic and it seemed like there were three different tables of playing going on. I did have fun trying to figure out what those dang MoM cards did. In the PSQ I played Patrick Sullivan the last round and had what can only be described as the most fun I've ever had playing in a tournament of LOTR (except for winning last year's MD TOC by beating Alex Tennet not just once, but TWICE!)

The times I went in to the tournament hall it looked big and rather empty. I'm not talking about just the Decipher area, but all the areas looked empty. It was rather saddening to see proof that CCG/TCGs are on a steady decline - especially since my job relies upon them being in existence. The convention hall looked rather empty too - and it didn't help anything that WotC had greatly downsized to a freaking tiny-ass booth.

Oh speaking of WotC - they are no longer using any artwork from Edward Beard Jr for MtG. How dumb is that? He's one of their most popular artists and they're cutting him in favor of crap from people like puddinhead who has some of the most disturbing and disgusting artwork I've ever laid eyes on (google him if you don't believe me!) E-mail their art department (artdrop@wizards.com) and let them know they made a big mistake!

Anyways, I didn't get much chance to walk around the convention hall too much. I plan on spending some time at GenCon doing that - demoing new games and such.

As far as the company performance at the show... We had a 9% increase in sales at the show over last year's Origins. I'm rather pleased about that.

Origins - First feeback

I just got back from Origins this past Monday.

I'm sick. :(

I have a head cold.

My brother-in-law was supposed to come in to work on Tuesday to help with unloading of the truck that we drove out to Columbus. He didn't show so I had to unload the truck. I'm worn out.
